What makes the gradual unravelling of Vin Diesel so fascinating, is wondering how much desperation is involved in it. I mean, after these last two Fast movies, what does he have left? Nothing else he's ever tried has connected with a mass audience, and his attempts to revitalize Riddick and XXX ended up being wet farts at the box office. Fast IS his career, and (speculation incoming) I wouldn't be surprised if he's having second thoughts about ending the mainline series. His spat with The Rock revealed his paranoia about being upstaged, and he just seems to have been grabbing more and more power wherever he could since then.
Of course, what would be funny is if the Fast movies do end here, and he's burned so many bridges by that stage that everybody refuses to work with him anymore, leaving Dom to be the only character who DOESN'T get a spinoff.
