I've heard in the past that when films are put on pause the filmmakers use the opportunity to improve the script. I suspect this might not be happening for Fast X. I wish Leterrier well, but it feels like he's walking into the lions den on this one.

They never actually stopped shooting. They just pivoted to entirely focusing on 2nd unit until a replacement director could be found. So there's no time for Leterrier (or anyone else) to overhaul the scripts for both of these films. It's just GO GO GO until principal wraps late this year, especially since they don't want to lose Momoa or Larson.

I don't think Statham has been confirmed as returning yet, but given that's it's a double-film production that shoots for most of the rest of this year, I bet he pops up in it somewhere.
Honestly half-surprised they don't have Sly and Arnold in cameo roles by now.
